OUTREACH CLOSET VOLUNTEERS

OFFICE RECEPTION VOLUNTEERS

Role Summary:

The outreach closet is a volunteer-led, staff-supported program for individuals who are homeless or precariously housed, to access survival gear, basic clothing, snacks, and when possible: support with housing search, phone calls, and connecting to other services.

 

The focus of the outreach team is to support individuals who are homeless and not using shelter. When we have outreach staff out in the community, you are the consistent presence at the office where folks know they can come to access supplies. 

 

We ask that you do 1-2 shifts a week. Shifts can be between 2 and 4 hours, between noon and 4 PM, Monday through Friday.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Greet people warmly and distribute supplies as available

  • Keep good records of supplies distributed, and utilize appropriate forms depending on the item

  • Accept donations in a kind manner

  • Sort, wash, and organize donations

  • Keep closet and outreach office clean

  • Monitor community members when inside the space

  • Communicate with Elizabeth Fry and One City staff 

 

Qualifications:

  • Belief in mission and mandate of One City Peterborough

  • Empathic and non-judgmental 

  • Ability to maintain clear boundaries

  • Good interpersonal and communication skills, including listening and counselling skills

  • Ability to accept guidance and support from and communicate with staff, providing regular feedback

  • Willingness to participate in on-going skills development

  • Availability and reliability to fulfill needs of role, acknowledging the changing time commitment of the role

Role Summary

The One City office can be a busy place with people coming and going with a variety of needs and requests. The volunteer receptionist will help people feel welcome, whether in person or over the phone, and help ensure timely responses to all requests.

 

We are looking for volunteers to do at least 1 shift a week. Shifts will be open from 9:00am - 4:30pm, Monday through Friday.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Answer phone calls

  • Check voicemail and relay messages

  • Greet visitors at the door

  • Assist with office organization

  • Assist with other duties around the office as needed

Qualifications:

  • Belief in mission and mandate of One City Peterborough

  • Empathic and non-judgmental 

  • Ability to maintain clear boundaries

  • Good interpersonal and communication skills, including active listening skills

  • Excellent note taking skills

  • Ability to accept guidance and support from and communicate with staff, providing regular feedback

  • Availability and reliability to fulfill needs of role

DATA ASSISTANCE VOLUNTEERS

Role Summary:

We are looking for support from a volunteer throughout April to help us comb through data collected during our Outreach program in order to write reports required by our funder. Work can be done from the One City office or from home. We estimate the work will take between around 10 hours.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Transforming names of program users into anonymous codes

  • Assisting in turning narrative reports into quantitative data

Qualifications:

  • Belief in mission and mandate of One City Peterborough

  • Empathic and non-judgmental 

  • Comfortable working with computers, Google Sheets, and can quickly learn to use our case management software (Sumac)

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality

  • Ability to accept guidance and support from and communicate with staff, providing regular feedback

  • Availability and reliability to fulfill needs of role
