After Hours Housing Support Worker

Job Purpose/Summary

With the support of the Housing Support Coordinator and Community Development Director, the After Hours Housing Support Worker is responsible for providing support to tenants in One City Peterborough (OCP) Housing. Specifically, during evening hours when tenants are vulnerable and external support is less readily available.

 

Job Description 

  • Looking for 1-2 staff, for a total of 6 shifts a week

  • 12 week contract, 

  • Shifts 10pm-2am nightly, covering six nights a week. Staff meetings during the day occasionally 

  • Wage: $16.75/hour

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Work from a harm-reduction, healing-centered framework

  • Engage with community and collaborate between tenants in OCP housing units

  • Assist tenants in facilitating guest management strategies in accordance to OCP housing policies

  • Help maintain safety and well being of the tenants by enforcing the No-Trespass Order for community members unable to access the property 

  • Checking in on a regular basis with tenants 

  • Working to engage tenants in fostering a sense of community within the home through shared activities

  • Supporting tenants in connecting with other OCP programs as appropriate

  • Supporting tenants in connecting with other organizations as appropriate

  • Working closely with the One City Peterborough Housing Team

  • Supervise and support volunteers

  • Keep accurate and up to date notes

  • Participate in initial and ongoing training

Qualifications

  • Commitment to the mission and values of the organization

  • The ability to work with individuals struggling with homelessness, poverty, criminalization, and/or social exclusion through a relational, harm-reduction model

  • Comfortable working in varying settings including One City housing and outside

  • Ability to make decisions effectively as a team

  • Ability to intervene during crisis situations

  • Working knowledge of housing and homelessness issues, working with criminal justice involved individuals, and community hubs as they apply to those most marginalized within the community

  • Knowledge of community health and social services is an asset

  • Knowledge of community shelter system is an asset

  • Current copy of a satisfactory Criminal Records Check, including a Vulnerable Sector Search

 

Work Conditions and Physical Capabilities

  • Fast-paced highly detailed environment

  • Exposure to various hazards e.g., infection, violence, bed bugs, mould, blood, excrement, uncontrolled substances and other exposures

  • This job requires being in the community and interacting with other individuals. It is required that you wear PPE when indoors, and when you are not able to properly distance yourself. PPE will be provided by One City Peterborough
