LE.BGH.112 - A Community Conversation Series on Caring for Each Other [Topic 3: Grief]
Being in community with one another means we take care of those who are ill, dying, and grieving. This 3-part conversation series, facilitated by artist and retired psychotherapist Brian Nichols, aims to provide a place where we can learn from each other's experiences of providing care and support.
Time & Location
Apr 25, 2024, 6:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.
Trinity Community Centre , 360 Reid St, Peterborough, ON K9H 7G6, Canada
About the event
We have all had experiences of knowing, loving, and perhaps caring for people in our community who have serious illness, are nearing death, or are grieving losses. This work is something that we do, but perhaps we don't often talk about it.
We know that only 20% of people who are dying are able to access palliative or hospice care. That means that the majority of end-of-life care happens in community: in our homes, shelters, and the public spaces where people connect and support one another.
We invite you to join the conversation about this collective care we are all part of, and to bring your perspectives to the experiences of serious illness, death, and grief. We also invite you to listen to others whose perspectives may differ from yours, and to hear from a variety of voices on the topics. We aim to learn from one another and to support and encourage our collective and individual efforts to increase compassionate care in our community.
At each event facilitator Brian Nichols will encourage a dialogue between all who attend, including some invited professionals from the field. This is not a panel discussion; all voices will be encouraged to contribute. The aim of these events is to offer space to dialogue about topics we think about and question but don't always know who or how to ask.
This is a three-part series. You are welcome to attend all or any of the conversations.
Please register for each part separately.

Cost
Gift economics is a different way of interacting with money and understanding what something is “worth.” In a Gift model, goods and services are not sold as they are in a market model of economics. Rather, they are given freely with no requirement of an exchange. We believe that the lessons and teachings we give and receive in our workshops are priceless.
At the same time, we do have needs as an organization operating within the current economic and social structures. Therefore, all participants in our community workshops are offered an opportunity to support our work. No one is required to give, and no amount is considered too small or too large.
