About the Event
Course Description
Additional Rental Units (ARUs) have many names; tiny homes, garden suites, in-law suites, accessory apartments, etc. Essentially, an ARU is a self-contained residential unit with a private bathroom, sleeping area, and kitchen within an existing house or within a standalone structure next to a house. This workshop will explore how three organizations in Peterborough, Ontario; CMHA, PATH (Peterborough Action for Tiny Homes), and One City Peterborough, have developed ARUs and contributed to affordable housing. This workshop is for non profits and private landowners who are considering how to develop these units in spaces they own or could own, particularly as it adds to the affordable housing market. There are lessons learned by these three organizations that would be highly beneficial for people and organizations thinking of exploring their ARU options.
