Objective
To be part of a circle of support for a “core member” who is someone with a conviction of a sexual offence and who is seeking reintegration into the community with the desire to live a crime-free and autonomous life.
To actively work from the principles of restorative justice, and a shared responsibility to build a healed, just, and safer community.
Tasks and Responsibilities
Facilitate open and honest dialogue
Model healthy boundaries
Assist the core member to empathize with others’ experiences, feelings, and needs
Challenge harmful behaviours, including dishonesty, blaming, and justification
Help the core member to develop appropriate support networks outside of the circle
Respect the confidentiality of the core member and circle
Be available and committed to attend regular circle meetings
Commitment
Weekly circle meeting (1hr) plus occasional housekeeping meetings and extra commitments needed by the core member.
A minimum 1 year commitment is required to join a circle.
Qualifications
Ability to maintain clear boundaries
Empathy and non-judgementalism
Good interpersonal and communication skills; an ability to be constructive
Capacity for problem-solving, learning from, and making decisions as part of a team
Ability to be proactive but also seek support when needed
Willingness to learn practical approaches to facilitating discussions
