About the Event

Course description

Many of us find ourselves in the difficult and worthwhile role of care-providers for people facing serious illness and end-of-life decisions. Our job descriptions may not name this piece of the work, specifically, but we are often a primary support for people as they navigate these decisions and gaps in medical care. It is important that we acknowledge this work and find encouragement, support, and resources from others who are doing the same.

This is a participatory 90 min workshop for people who support community members facing health challenges and barriers to care. Based on "Palliative Care Is... A Collective Response to Death, Dying and Grief in the Innner City" (Equity in Palliative Approaches to Care, University of Victoria), we will talk about the unique role of non-medical direct service providers in recognizing, and advocating for, the health needs of the people we support.
